TOP STORY: The Real Web Pagey

That's right, after hours of tireless work, the real page (The Alpha, at least) is finally up. It's got some nice content, but they aren't letting me use the really nice stuff yet (Stupid curr -iculum. I'm planning on expanding it in the next two weeks (Finishing up the Mother Hicks and bigiffying the Lend Me a Tennor pages). Two notes: I want your photos from the shows and photos of all the Crew Chieves. If I am not appeased, I will use yearbook pictures. Visit the new site by clicking here.

Album Review: Rockabilly Hall of Fame Volume 5

I'm reviewing new record (And Lee Rocker has made a third solo album, tho I can't find it anywhere). Anyway, it's fifth in the Rockabilly Hall of Fame's series of compilation albums. For those of you not in the know, the Rockabilly Hall of Fame is independent American rockabilly's biggest label, website, and recording studio. This contains a bunch of origional tracks, tracks of historic merit, tracks from guys who record on their label, and tracks from sessions in their studio from other labels. There usually isn't a theme, but this year is the 25 anniversary of Gene Vincent's death, so it has a Gene Vincent memorial theme. 12 (of the 28 tracks) are Gene Vincent songs (5 un -released ones by the man himself, including an awesome live, and very funky, Bebopalula). Most of the 7 other tracks are by friends or former members of the Blue Caps. Of the other 16 tracks, there are a few nice ones. 3 are largely commercial pieces of dreck by new artists (Including an REO Speedwagon cover, what the heck do they have to do with rockabilly?) But other than that, it's quite nice. Every song has at least two or three good soloists. My only real complaint is a severe lack in Everlyish harmonization (Though the massive 13 part harmony on How Great Thou Art more that satisfies my desires). Good tracks include: OH NO by Pep Torres (Only the second Spanish rockabilly band I've ever heard, and yes they do sing in Espanol), It's Been So Long by Sean Benjamin (Stand-out ballad), "Sweet Little Bopin' Girl" Marc Bristol with PeeWee Thomas (Classic rag, with insanely twangy solos), Chaos Lady by Rusty Evans (Awesome lyrics by a guy whose voice would fool Johnny Cash's mother), The Night is So Lonely, BE BOP A LULA, and Woman Love by Gene Vincent, Ain't She Sweet by Rockin' Roary & The Stone Valley Band (If Cap. Beefheart did rockabilly), Say Mama (Beautiful crashing slide guitar) by Dickie Harrell, Fannie Mae (Classic blues by a drumer with only one other vocal credit to date, the scream on BE BOP A LULA), How Great Thou Art by The Jordan -aires (Gospel that even an ardent Non-Christian like me likes). Bottom line it's $9.90 (Post-paid) and 28 tracks with only 3 truly bad ones. It's not the Hall's best release, but it's a heck of an album SCORE: of 5 penguins.

Surf Ninjas Front

Sadly, efforts to play Surf Ninjas at movie night have failed. However, let's not be bitter. Bottom line, we need the money, and you get two movies instead of one for five dollars. It's not a bad deal, why not go.

Feat of Strength #5

The Feat of Strength competition is a test to see how ballin' my Thespian brothers are. Each week's winner (The first to mail me the correct/best answer) will recieve a nominal prize. This week's prize is: Up to 60 Random Baseball Cards This week's feat is: You know how some bands are somebody and the somethings (e.g. Benny and the Jets, tho it isn't a real band). I'll give you the name of six bands and you tell me their frontmen. The top scorer gets up to 60 random baseball cards (Held together by a high-quality, made in Guam rubber band), 10 for each correct answer. Here they are: 1) The E Street Band 2) The Silver Bullet Band 3) The Hot Band (Not the one Django Reinhart played in in Paris the famous 70's country-rock organization) 4) The Wraymen 5) The Flecktones 6) Double Trouble (If you don't get this one, I expell you from Texas) (You have until next 0600 Thursday GMT (Or midnight Wednesday, here) to mail me the answer.
Until Next Week... Have fun and give it up to the Dutch.
